Be honest. When the notification hit, you didn't believe it either.
Jaylen Brown. To the Sixers. From the Celtics.
Not a rumor. Not a Trade Machine screenshot your buddy made at 1am. An actual, real trade: Brown to Philly for Paul George, two firsts (2028 and 2031) and two seconds. That's it. That's the whole package.
Boston took our injury-report legend and some picks for a 29-year-old Finals MVP coming off a career year. And they did it two months after we bounced them in the first round.
I need everyone to stay calm. I am not calm.
What we're actually getting
This isn't a "good stats on a bad team" guy. Brown just averaged 28.7 a game, made second-team All-NBA, and finished sixth in MVP voting. Finals MVP in 2024. Five All-Star games. He's spent his entire career in the playoffs, half of it being guarded by the best defender on the floor, the other half being booed by us specifically.
And now he's ours.
Brown next to Maxey is genuinely unfair. Two guys who can get their own bucket whenever they want, plus VJ Edgecombe flying around, plus Embiid not having to carry the entire offense on one knee anymore. Vegas already moved the Sixers to 20-1 for the 2027 title, which feels disrespectful, but fine. We like being doubted. It's kind of our whole thing.
Why Boston did this (nobody knows)
Here's the part that makes no sense: the Celtics shopped Brown to Milwaukee in the Giannis talks, Giannis went to Miami instead, and then Boston just... kept going? They made him feel expendable and then proved it, sending him to the one fanbase they hate most.
Brown said he's "excited and disappointed at the same time," and honestly, respect. He gave Boston everything, they dangled him in trade talks, and he found out what "family" means in the NBA. His loss of respect for them is our gain.
Philly fans know exactly what to do with a superstar who feels disrespected. That's our love language.
The last time this happened
The last time the Sixers traded for a superstar in his prime who was mad at his old team, it was Moses Malone in 1982. You may remember what happened the following June. Fo, fo, fo.
I'm not saying Jaylen Brown is Moses. I'm saying the vibes are the same and I've already convinced myself, and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
Farewell, Paul George
PG, we hardly knew ye. Mostly because ye were listed as questionable.
In all seriousness — it didn't work, everyone knows it didn't work, and turning that contract into Jaylen Brown is the kind of front-office magic we are not used to around here. Daryl cooked. Say it with me.
October can't come fast enough
The Sixers just eliminated Boston in the playoffs, then took their best player. That's not a trade, that's a hostile takeover of the Atlantic Division. The first Celtics game at the Wells Fargo Center is going to be absolutely electric. Start hydrating now.
So yeah. It's July, it's 90 degrees, and I'm already planning my winter around Sixers games.
We are so back. (We are always one hamstring away from being cooked. But right now? So back.)
Am I crazy, or is this the best Sixers offseason of our lifetime? Argue with me in the comments.
New era, new wardrobe. Grab your Sixers gear before the bandwagon shows up, or browse everything Philly — because if this season goes how we think it will, you'll want proof you were here before the parade.
